Title of the paper :
Earliest Buddhism: A Movement for the Quest of Equality
Abstract:
Earliest Buddhism was founded by Gautam Buddha. His teachings in the form of Earliest Buddhism affected the society in such a way that man, irrespective of caste, creed or colour became the master of his own dignity. The Buddha’s Dhamma was not only a philosophy or a way of life, but an order based on complete equality. Buddhist Sangha also contributed to lessen the rigidity of caste barriers and emerged egalitarian tendencies. Buddha taught that everyone regardless of gender, caste and class, has the capacity for enlightenment. Egalitarian approach of Earliest Buddhist Movement is relevant still today as gender, class and caste discrimination still exist in our society in this present scientific age. Therefore we must be committed to the quest of equality by embracing the heritage that the Buddha bequeathed on us.
