Title of the paper :
Kṛt Suffixes in Puruṣottama Yoga of Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā
Abstract:
The word Gitā is a feminine gender derived from the root gai with the kṛt suffix kta karmaṇi by the rule niṣṭhā 3.2.102. The root gai becomes gā ātvam by the rule ādeca upadeśeऽśiti 6.1.45, and then by the rule ghumāsthāgāpājahātisāṃ hali 6.4.66 gā becomes gī ītvam. “Giyate sma ātmavidyopadeśātmikā brahmatattvopadeśamayī kathā yatra”. It is the scripture where real knowledge of brahma, soul, and creation etc. are well furnished and discussed. It is the embodiment of all scriptural knowledge consisting of 18 chapters and 700 verses. The subject matter of each chapter contains ambrosia of knowledge for the beneficial of mankind. Every chapter has its own distinctiveness. Amongst all the chapters, the 15th chapter Puruṣottama yoga is more vital. In this chapter the virtues, fame, fundamental nature of the supreme person, etc. are discussed. Gitā is the best genuine scripture in Sanskrit language regarding moral and philosophical aspects. The suffixes play more crucial role in Sanskrit grammar. These suffixes provide a bunch of information when being added. The role of Kṛt suffix or primary suffix is very important. The suffix apart from tiṅ is known as kṛt according to the rule kṛdatiṅ 3.1.93. By adding kṛt suffixes onto roots we get nouns. For example, when we add the suffix tṛc to the root kṛ we will get kartā by the rule ṇvultṛcau 3.1.133. Amidst many features of Sanskrit grammar the present paper deals with only the primary suffixes and also the words ending with these primary suffixes coming under this 15th chapter.
