Social Realism in The Select Novels of “Khushwant Singh”
Abstract:
This thematic study on social realism in Khushwant Singhs novels examines the identity of the protagonists under the classification of victims of patriarchy, social inequalities, characteristics of traditional, frustration and aggression, empowerment and different manifestations of the quest for individual self. It aims to uncover various social reality-based aspects in various parts of lifestyle of normal humans and how men and women balance between the self and their responsibilities in the Indian scenario. Khushwant Singh is an Indian English fiction writer who explores different facets of human emotions. He explores the core theme narrative techniques of his novels, dealing with characters mental upheavals, inner struggle, desire for warmth, love, companionship, and obsession with death. He explores the concept of social realism in his novels, examining the structure, symbols, images, metaphors, and rhetoric. It concludes that there is a need to re-build social realism in Indian society to establish mutual complementarity between men and women and leading a peaceful lifestyle.
