Society, Culture and Race in Postcolonial Literature
Abstract:
Chinua Achebe is one of the following pillars of African Literature. He started his carrier as a writer and critic. This paper focuses on his novel Things Fall Apart, which won him the Margaret Wong memorial prize. This research explores the clash between traditional and western culture. It swap of a persons culture occurred due to colonialism. The fall of culture is due to westernization, behavior, character, cultural and realism is discussed. He talks about a number of conflicts in this novel but in the end, he did not mention any solution for them. This novel shows that the American writers giving much importance to multiple identities of African culture. The cultural conflicts are Okonkwo and his son, Nwoye is joined with missionaries. Although his effort to raise his son on the Igbo cultural route failed and his war against Christian imperialism was not welcomed by his countrymans who began to convert Christianity. Finally Okonkwo commits suicides and his death is directly linked to the cultural transformation of the African continent.
