Travel Literature and its Significance
Abstract:
Travel writing as an independent literary genre of literature has not only give us happenings about contemporary actions but also as a cursory look at the records of literary events from the biblical times till the modern period. Travel literature is travel writing that typically reports the experiences of travelers when they travel to some interesting places, people and encounters with different circumstances. It will include the descriptions of images, maps, historical background of the place where they travel. Travel literature is as old as human civilization. In India, we find a rich heritage of travel literature. According to fact, there is no vernacular language in India which does not have a good amount of travel literature and when we talk about this genre in Indian English literature, it is interesting to know that the first-ever Indian English prose piece was part of this very genre, namely The Travels of Dean Mahomet.
