Volume III Issue III July-September 2023
Name of Author :
Amit Sharma
Title of the paper :
Gandhis Nationalism Odyssey: From Cosmic Vision to Focused Indian Identity
Abstract:
This paper studies the complicated development of Mahatma Gandhis viewpoint on nationalism, charting his transition from a broad-minded cosmopolitan perspective to a passionate dedication to Indian nationalism. The transformational nationalist ideology of Gandhi was developed by his interactions with marginalised populations and his collaborations with significant figures such as Pestonji Padshah, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and Gopal Krishna Gokhale during his time in South Africa. The transition he made from advocating for a universalistic unity against tyranny to directing his attention towards the unique issues faced by India underscores his intentional exploration of ideas follows a different path than that were offered by ‘nation’ theorists. This work seeks to explore this contradictory phenomena.
