Cultural Clash in Barbara Kingsolver’s The Poisonwood Bible
Abstract:
Barbara Kingsolver as an American novelist focuses on social justice, emphasize the importance of biodiversity and the intertwined human and natural world. Her literary subjects are varied and she often writes about her familiar places especially Africa and Arizona. As a writer she focuses on issues like western colonialism, cultural imperialism erasure of different cultures due to western influence, imperialism, biological adaptation on planet, ecological issues, class discrimination, gender bias, racial discrimination and economics. She often explores cultural diversity and the clash of different worldviews in most of her works. While her novels may not explicitly delve into the concept of cultural relativism, they often touch upon anthropocentrism and the interconnectedness of human and the natural environment.
