Volume IV Issue III July-September 2024
Name of Author :
Dr. Sangeeta
Title of the paper :
Multidisciplinary Approaches in Interior Design
Abstract:
This paper first delves into the NEP 2020s emphasis on multidisciplinary learning, highlighting its relevance to interior design education. It then examines how collaborations with architecture provide a deeper understanding of spatial planning and structural integrity. Engineering principles, particularly in lighting, acoustics, and material sciences, enhance the technical competency of interior designers, while fine arts contribute to the creative and expressive aspects of design. Through case studies and examples, the paper illustrates how these interdisciplinary approaches are being implemented in design curricula across various institutions. The study also addresses the challenges and opportunities presented by such a pedagogical shift, including the need for curriculum reform, faculty development, and the creation of collaborative learning environments. The paper concludes by advocating for a more integrated approach to interior design education, one that aligns with NEP 2020s vision of producing well-rounded, innovative, and socially responsible design professionals.
