Title of the paper :
Urbanization and Environmental Issues in Delhi:A Geographical Analysis
Abstract:
Due to rapid urbanization, Delhi has faced serious environmental issues, including pollution, loss of urban green space, increasing heat island phenomena, and destruction of urban ecosystem, over the past few decades. As a result of huge population and urban expansion, issues such as use of unclean energy and the increased use of personal transportation has contributed to the citys alarming rate of air pollution and smog. In addition, within the city, high resource consumption and government obligation to meet the needs and demands of those living within the city in terms of housing, and provision of basic necessities and luxuries is a major challenge. This has attribute do excessive water pollution of the Yamuna River, extensive deforestation, particularly within the Aravalli hill range, diminishing biodiversity and natural resources, and the disappearance of rural land area outside the city. Hence, it is important to address such glaring issues to preserve the citys natural environment for the posterity. This can be done through proper planning and sustainable approaches.
