Title of the paper :
Quest for Identity in Chitra Banerjee Divakarunis Sister of My Heart
Abstract:
Literature is a work of art. Both influence each other. Literature represents the culture and tradition of the people. It includes prose, poetry, novels, drama, and short stories. When Indian writers started writing in English, the nomenclature given to them was Indian English Literature. English language came to India when the British entered India and started the British East India Company. During the pre independence period, when India was under the colonisers, the colonisers wrote about their experiences. There was a slow growth in the field of writing by Indians. The early writers include Michael Madhusudan followed by the trio, R. K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, and Raja Rao. Also writers like Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee started writing in English. All these writers concentrated on common themes such as social issues, contemporary society, and spirituality. They attracted the attention of the readers by including themes like the pitiable condition of the untouchables, the landless peasants, and also the problems of industrial workers.
