Name of Author :
Dr.M.Saji
Title of the paper :
Ecocultural interconnectedness in Libyan Literature: A Study of Ibrahim al Koni
Abstract:
The article examines in detail, the relevance of cultural and ecological issues and their interconnectedness by analysing the major issues in a thematic and philosophical manner taking into account the issues of humanism, value system, ethnicity, anti globalisation, post colonial outlook, knowledge systems and social movements. While conventional topics like race, class and gender find a place in literary discourses, environmental issues do not get much attention they ought to get as many do not realise the gravity of the problem. And, the recent trend is that humanity has woken up along with ecocritics, scholars, literary critics and cultural theorists to combat the threat and recognize the significance of the study of literature and the environment. Libyan intellectuals like Al Koni engage modernity with traditional desert life by focusing on themes of everyday life multiple identities, urbanization, alienation, and displacement. The aim of this study is identity in detail the social, economic, political and environmental systems and forces, both visible and invisible, that leads to ecological destruction.
