Volume I Issue IV October 2021
Name of Author :
Akshata Nair & Dr. Nibha Thakore
Title of the paper :
Imbricating Continuums in Spaces of Conflict in Girish Karnad’s Play, Hayavadana
Abstract:
This paper intends to explore the conflict in Girish Karnad’s Hayavadana and its construction in different space-time continuums. It analyses the theme of incompleteness and how each of the characters’ conflicts are resolved. The role of the Sutradhara - defined as the one who holds the strings - has been examined how he links the main and subplot of the play, and breaches the space time continuum to make the play effective. Individual characters’ Padmini, Devadtta, Kapila, Kali, and Hayavadana roles have also been analyzed and their character arcs have been studied with respect to their conflicts, both internal and external.
Keywords :
spaces of conflict, space-time continuum, incompleteness
