Volume I Issue IV October 2021
Name of Author :
Dr. M. Suganthiya
Title of the paper :
A Vision of Life in the Select Novels of Anita Desai
Abstract:
Anita Desai’s vision of life is determined by the shift from the external to the inner world, in which process, she replaces the traditional form of realism with the exploration of the turbulent emotional world under a feminine gaze penetrating and sensitive at the same time. Her characters themselves have a tendency to turn inward. Most of her novels center on women as victims whose identity and integrity are threatened by the male-dominated world in which they have to carve out a space for themselves. Their potential is suppressed by overwhelming social pressures and demanding expectations.
