Title of the paper :
Saliva-Potassium Biosensor from Cigarette Butts for Determination of Potassium Ion in Crime Investigation
Abstract:
This study reports the fabrication and characterization of potassium levels in saliva from cigarette butts, a in house assembled electrochemical device is developed which works under the principle of Nernstian law by deposition of crown ether layer on the surface of carbon counter electrode. Calibration of in-house assembled electrode in standard potassium chloride KCl solutions has shown that the sensitivity of crown ether towards the potassium slope 57.4 mVdecade in the range of 8-70 mmoll. Saliva samples tested in 120 cigarette butts from 20 subjects of potassium concentration in to check the accuracy of the electrode and it can be used sensitivity of the electrodes with and without crown ether coating towards sodium ion with Slope Value 35 mVdecade has been found to be comparatively less than that of crown ether for potassium showing that sodium ions in saliva from in Cigarette butts do not interfere with the measurements. The Crown ether electrode has also been successfully used in determining K+ level in real sample analysis and verified with atomic absorption spectroscopy. These finding suggest that Potassium ion analysis of saliva traces samples on cigarette butts can be used in forensic investigation process.
