Title of the paper :
Trapped in Solitude An Exploration of Psychological and Emotional Isolation in Freida McFaddens The Housemaid
Abstract:
Freida McFadden is a prominent American novelist known for her psychological thrillers and domestic suspense novels. In her book, The Housemaid, she explores themes of power and control, class differences, survival, and resilience. This article examines the psychological and emotional isolation faced by Millie, the maid who struggles with her sense of worth and belonging within a wealthy household. It further explores how societal expectations and personal circumstances can make individuals feel trapped in solitude. The article discusses Millies everyday experiences that illustrate her isolation, including the long hours of labour she endures in service to her employer, which leaves little time for social interaction or personal reflection. It highlights the emotional burden of her work environment, which is characterized by a lack of empathy and understanding from those around her. Through Millies experiences, McFadden highlights the hidden struggles of those who seem to lead ordinary lives but are battling inner demons and feelings of isolation.
