Thought and Works of Jibran Khalil Jibran: A Study
Abstract:
The present paper is an attempt to highlight the thought and works of the prolific Arab writer Jibran Khalil Jibran 1883-1931. He was a Lebanese-American philosopher, writer, poet and visual artist simultaneously. He is best known as author of “The Prophet” 1923, “The Madman” 1918 and “Broken Wings” 1912. This study specially focuses on the contribution of Jibran Khalil Jibran to the development of Arabic literature and social philosophical aspects of the book “The Prophet”. Here the term social philosophy refers to actual activities of human beings in the society. This study has found that Jibran Khalil Jibran has great contribution to the development of Arabic literature in the era of early 20th century from different points of view. As a social philosopher, he also tries to discover and restore the social bonds by spreading his spiritual thought to readers through his famous book “The Prophet” and which has far reaching impact on modern society.
