Title of the paper :
Madiga Literature in Dalit Literature: An Emerging Trend
Abstract:
Writing is an art in aesthetic sense, but writing is a mandatory responsibility in social sense. It is considered to be an art for main stream literary composers, but it is social responsibility to Dalit writers. It is the need of the hour to explore many issues in Dalit literature that went unrecognized from last few decades. Dalit literature is a new evolution in literary circles and it is a literature of protest. Dalit writings are not based on fiction, or imagination but it is from the experience. The four Varna Caste systems stood as an obstacle for Dalits to enter into the social sphere. Literature is a mirror of society, but the mirror rubbed Dalit image for ages. The writing of Dalit Panthers Movement was translated into English. Dalit Literature took great leap after independence. After independence, Dalit Panthers started to write exclusively about Dalit difficulties neglecting national movement and influence of Gandhi. Later, Ambedkar became the inspiration for Dalits and Dalit literature and Dalit Movement. It is true that without the inclusion of Dalit Literature we cannot say that Indian literature is fulfilled, same is the case with Madiga literature in Dalit literature as they representing the low ranked community in Dalits. Adding caste name is counter by Madigas to mainstream society. In Andhra Pradesh the dominant Castes like Kamma , Reddy , Kapu add their caste names to their names to show their supremacy over others. After the emergence of Madiga Dandora movement Madigas started adding their caste name to their name. The community once kept his caste name as secret because of the low consideration of caste among society and even among Dalits who are now proudly adding their caste name.
