A Comparative Study between the Works of Amish Tripathi and Devdutt Pattanaik
Abstract:
Background – A literature depicts culture, mankind, and experiences. It engulfs both imagination and reality. One can feel the age of rich and old rituals, culture, and practises through the lens of mythology. Amish Tripathi is one of the incontrovertible fictionists in Indian English writing. His modern storytelling is based on mythological fiction. He is well versed in reinventing and reverse engineering traditional myths. Novelists like Devdutt Pattanaik and Amish Tripathi revived the history with their retellings of myths. Objective – This paper shows the way mythology is being retold with a novel approach through the novels and works of eminent writers like Amish Tripathi and Devdutt Pattanaik. These authors have been especially focused in this research because they have retouched ancient epics with the same value and grandeur. This paper focuses on restoring the myths with these retellings and to cherish and imbibe in life. In addition, these myths and folklores have answered a lot of unsolved puzzles, such as laws of karma, queer identity, connection between mankind and nature, etc. Results – Mythology has been the eventual topic of research over the years. The writers have re-interpreted earlier myths over the ages. This study is aimed to provide a novel insight to the ancient myths. A new wave of authors like Devdutt Pattanaik and Amish Tripathi has played with this genre through different styles of fiction. They have set a new trend of combining fantasy and mythology. Conclusion – Pattanaik comes from a generation of writers who write in a different way that bases their female characters in the true framework of literature while giving fresh perspective in several stories and situations. Most of their books have the true premise of their interpretation and writing and this study is based on their framework on mythology.
