Enhancement of Metacognitive Awareness during Reading for the First Year Engineering Students during the Pandemic – A Study
Abstract:
In the current scenario, reading has become one of the important skills to develop the proficiency level of English for the students. But due to pandemic situation across the world the reading habit among the students has reduced. In order to provide opportunities to develop their reading skill metacognitive strategy is used to stimulate the students’ reading activity which would also help them to develop their thinking skills. To assess the learners reading awareness level the MARSI questionnaire is used. The questionnaire all helps the learners to get introduced to learn about various strategies that can be adapted during reading. In this regard the researcher has made a general survey among the first engineering students to bring out the spirit to improve the reading skill. The researcher also focuses on how the questionnaire lights up the techniques to be adopted to comprehend the reading passage to increase the independent reading.
