Title of the paper :
Numeral System in Sherpa Language
Abstract:
This paper presents a view on the Numeral System of the Sherpa language which is spoken in the Sikkim state of India and Nepal. The paper expresses the basic concept of the Numeral System and it is shown with the help of the Sherpa language. The Sherpas are one of the indigenous tribes of Sikkim having a distinct ethnic identity. The Sherpa language belongs to the Central Unit of the Bodish Section within the Bodic Subdivision of Sino-Tibetan. Sherpa is mainly of the decimal type. The majority of the numeral roots in the language are mono-morphemic, however, bimorphemic numeral roots are also prevalent in the language. Compounding is the productive morphological process to form the higher numerals in the language.
