Abstract:
Cinema is an essential and indispensable facet of the present-day world. It provides indelible images of the surroundings and records the lives of ordinary people. It acts as a prominent platform that creates meanings and sheds light on political, social, cultural, and economic aspects to export various realities to the audience. The paper presents insights from the movie ‘Kahaani’ by Sujoy Ghosh. He brings the city of Kolkata to the fore by depicting the citys lanes, streets, and myriad aspects of Bengali culture. The highly acclaimed Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter, Sujoy Ghosh, presents the struggle and trauma of a pregnant woman searching for her husband in the metropolitan city- Kolkata in the movie Kahaani. Sujoy Ghosh uses the city for the storys setting and also as a prominent character in the movie. By elaborating on the movies fine points, the paper brings forth the life of Kolkata, the yellow taxis, congested traffic, luchis, alleys, leisurely trams, and the citys festivals, thereby focusing on the portrayal of the city in cinema.
