Title of the paper :
Revolutionary of Dystopian Society in Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games Trilogy
Abstract:
Rebellion or Revolution is an act performed against oppressors mainly in a dystopian state. The term rebellion is defined as an aggressive war waged by a group of individuals seeking to alter their country’s political system. It refers to an open resistance against the orders of established authority. In reality, the notion of revolt stems from a sense of outrage and unhappiness with one’s condition in an oppressed society. The rebels battle the government in order to bring change and progress to the people’s lives. Rebellion arouses in different ways. They may be individual or collective as well as peaceful or violent. Therefore, rebellion is a refusal of obedience towards the totalitarian society. It is a kind of protest against the system which disturbs the peace of the society. These rebels always remain as threats to society. Moreover, rebellion or resistance is an expression of individualism and independence that implies a degree of freedom from the authoritative government. Freedom may be the ultimate goal in the minds of the revolutionaries. Through these revolutions, some may lose their lives and some may achieve self-emancipation. Consequently, the dystopian society and its revolution issues are prominently seen in American fiction. Suzanne Collins, a well-known American novelist, deeply discusses the authoritative government and its evolutional concepts in her The Hunger Games Trilogy. In this novel, she focuses on how the revolution starts out of suppression. It also deals with the actions and steps taken to spark the revolution that changes the social system. In the novel, she creates a protagonist named Katniss, who realizes that she gets extremely exploited by the Capitol. After realization, she starts fighting against the Capitol. Finally, after facing all the physical and psychological tortures Katniss evolves with her rebellion. She also sows the seed of rebellion in the mind of other people to get evolved from the oppressed state and finally wins in her rebellion. Throughout The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins presents the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, as an important element for social change.
