Legal Provisions and Judicial Response in India for the Women Empowerment
Abstract:
The concept of Gender Justice entails ending the inequalities between the gender in all spheres of life. Empowerment of women is a critical aspect of achieving gender justice as it decides the development of a country. Women in all societies are confronted with many challenges including physical, mental and sexual harassment where India is no exception. Gender injustice is problem across the world, in spite of the presence of many international and national legal provisions for the protection and promotion of women rights. The Constitution of India enshrines provisions to secure gender equality and to protect womens right putting them on an equal footing with men socially, economically and politically. Indian Judiciary also have been working as a saviour of women right actively. In this article an attempt is made to discuss the legal provisions for the protection of women and the role of Judiciary in empowerment of womens right in India. In this article an attempt is made to discuss the various legal provisions as well as the active role played by the higher judiciary for the empowerment of women to achieve gender justice in India.
