Title of the paper :
Search for Identity and Oppression of Women – An Analysis of the poem This is a Photograph of Me by Margaret Atwood
Abstract:
Woman is an embodiment of patience, sacrifice and suffering. This research paper examines the position of women in the society and how their existence has become a matter of less importance because of male domination. Through the poem This Is a Photograph of Me, Margaret Atwood tries to explain the sufferings of women and their search for identity in a male-chauvinistic society. Women are not allowed to voice out their ideas and are denied of their rights because of the patriarchal system. Freedom and gender equality must be experienced and enjoyed by every individual in this world. Oppression and lack of identity are the themes that revolve around the entire poem. Therefore, we must break the myth that women are inferior beings and should strive for our rights with untiring optimism. Perseverance and hope will help one to gain self-identity and gender equality.
