The Space of Independent Women in Chitra Banerjee’s The Mistress of Spices
Abstract:
This paper is aimed to show the space of independent woman Tilottamma shortly as Tilo. This novel mistress of spices illustrates magical realism. It highlights how an immigrant woman needs a space for independent life. Tilo possessed a spice bazaar in Oakland, California. She has an ability to interact with spices. Tilo had two stands, one is love and possessiveness towards spices and the next one is love towards a man Raven when Tilo and Raven got married. Now she realized her nature and preference are different from Raven. Eventually, she was struggle to save people from disaster especially immigrant women who live their life independently.
