Title of the paper :
Marginilisation from Double Ends: A Critical Analysis of ‘Basivi Cult’ In the Novel ‘Mudhra’
Abstract:
The present paper seeks to critically analyse ‘marginalization from double ends’, i.e. the caste system and the religion, the rigid and complex phenomenon, with their embedded traditions, practices through the lenses of a Telugu novel “Mudhra” written by Dr. V. R Rasani. The study tries to make a critical analysis against the backdrop, theoretical framework of the theory of ‘power’, ‘subject’ and ‘patriarchy’. To put it in a different way, the paper looks at the way how power operates in a social structure. However, the main crux of the paper lies in exemplifying the lives of thousands of women who are turned as Basivis, an evil practice that exists even today in the parts of Andhra Pradesh, through the characters in the novel . Moreover, the paper tries to encapsulate, how some religious practices existing in lower castes , tries to mute, marginalise the lives of women of their community.
