Title of the paper :
A Study of Inner self of Woman in Anita Desai’s novel, ‘Where Shall We go This Summer’
Abstract:
Anita Desai has been a prolific writer and several articles have been written on her novels. Anita Desai is an eminent contemporary Indian English woman writer of fiction. She kneads the delicate thread of women’s suffering in her novels. She is a good reader of the inner psyche of women’s emotions, alienation, seclusion, quest for identity, independence etc. The paper focuses on the study of the inner self of a woman in Anita Desai’s novel, ‘Where Shall We Go This Summer’. In the novel, ‘Where shall we go this summer?’ the author records the quintessence of the protagonist. The author carved a vivid arch between the relationship of a husband and wife. The author depicts the similarities and contrast of urban and rural life in this novel. The protagonist who had been brought up in a small island in her childhood finds it very difficult to adapt herself to the city life in Mumbai. The busy, scheduled, mechanic life in the city make the protagonist agonize. The torment, struggle, anxiety in accepting realities of urban life is quite challenging for the protagonist, Sita. The chaotic emotions, reluctance to attune to urban life, dissatisfied married life, are depicted in the story through the character Sita, the protagonist.
