Aliented Women in Gender Studies on Where Shall We Go This Summer by Anitha Desai
Abstract:
This work WHERE SHALL WE GO THIS SUMMER book was written by Anitha Desai who is one of the psychological and alienated writer of the twentieth century. She is a prominent Indo-English novelist and well known for the realistic portrayal of women who suffer in the male dominant society and she has added a new concept to the Indian English fiction. In her other books like Cry the peacock and Fire on the mountain she tries to show the intense relation of husband and wife. Here she illustrates relation between family women and her family. This fiction dwells on the theme of alienation and miscommunication in married life. This story focused on mid aged female named as ‘Sita’ an emotional woman settled with her four children. She often feels alienated from her husband and her children then she undergoes acute mental agonies. As a female writer she has not focused only on her sufferings but also she tries to highlight the deep emotion of women in chaotic society. The purpose of this paper is to note the marital disharmony in the life of Sita and her husband Raman which shows an intense emotion of a married women who is badly disturb from her married life which convert into solitary from the society. It also reflects the problem of life in this modern society. At last how Sita becomes the victims of the conflict and leaves the metro politician city from an island.
