Title of the paper :
Non-Negotiables of Differentiated Instruction in the ESL Classroom
Abstract:
Differentiated instruction, as indicated by Carol Ann Tomlinson, is the procedure of ensuring that what a student learns, how he or she learns it, and how the student demonstrates what he or she has learned is a match for that students readiness level, interests, and preferred mode of learning. Learners in todays ESL classes come from a variety of backgrounds and have varying demands. Teachers in ESL classrooms encounter various obstacles in this situation, hence Differentiated instructions are critical for teachers to deal with in ESL classes. This paper provides guidance to teachers who want to create learning environments that address the diversity found in ESL classrooms. It focuses on a brief examination of how it can help teachers figure out what differentiated instruction is, why it is appropriate for all learners, how to start planning for it, and how to become comfortable enough with student differences to make school comfortable for each learner. The study is qualitative in nature, with the primary source being references from various journals, papers, and books.
