Role of Teachers in Developing Emotional Intelligence of Disabled Children
Abstract:
Disability is a global problem and its magnitude varies from country to country. Disability in children is caused by malnutrition, infection, trauma at birth, infancy and childhood and chronic illness. The disabled children often lack emotional challenges and these emotional problems make these children to be unbalanced and as emotionally unstable individuals. Teachers play an important role in the field of education and the destiny of a nation lies in the hand of a teacher. An emotionally intelligent teacher can regulate emotional intelligence in the classroom with respect to dimensions namely self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills. When teachers possess good intellectual, moral, and social development, they can promote effective inter and intra personal skills among the children through the use of innovative educational strategies. This paper emphasises the role of teachers in developing emotional intelligence of disabled children.
