Title of the paper :
Eco-Critical Study of Easterine Kires when the River Sleeps
Abstract:
North East literature has emerged as a literature of importance documenting the beautiful landscape and the mingling of diverse ethnic groups in the form of narrative tales, fiction, novels, poetry, and other forms. Easterine Kire is a well-known fiction writer and a poet from the North East Indian state of Nagaland. Additionally, she is one of the best story tellers from the region. Easterine Kire’s When the River Sleeps is a picaresque novel which portrays the story of Vilie, an Angari man from Nagaland, who is captivated with the sleeping river and the mysterious stone beneath the water. Nature is portrayed as a haven of solace and refuge and it becomes almost like a character in the novel as it helps Vilie to overcome the fear of spirits. The objective of this paper is an attempt to analyse Easterine Kire’s When the River Sleeps from an eco-critical perspective.
