Title of the paper : Rain-Soaked Malayalam Cinema, symbol of rain in Perumazhakalam Vyshali and Karikku

Abstract: Abstract As Rain and Kerala has got strong connection there is a connection between rain and Malayalam cinema. There are very few Films where the element of rain does not enter. Every rain element that passes through a Malayalam movie will explain certain life situation. Directors and writers have tried to reflect the soul connection with Kerala during the rainy season through Malayalam cinema. Audience can feel the presence of rain as it goes through all the situations in a character’s life. Malayalam movies, that tell stories through rain have opened new doors of enjoyment. By using the element of rain in Malayalam movies, it has been possible to tell the life conditions of not one person, but many personalities. For some, rain brings happiness, while for others, rain tells the story of sadness. In Perumazhakalam rain is yet another protagonist who travels along the movie and reveals the intensity of sadness faced by two ladies in two different ways. In Vyshali too rain plays a significant role as one part of the movie rain bring happiness by the cost of two life. In an episode of a web series called Karikku the main character is seen cursing the rain as part of the conflicts he is going through when it is raining, but in the next moment, the person is enjoying the rain when his problems solves through a phone call. In all these three movies rain stood as an important symbol which reveals each and every minute emotional state of characters. Rain and its different dimensions are evident in all three movies. How much man is involved with his nature and its element is what matters. The internal conflict each character face in the movie goes parallel with the symbolic representation of rain in the scene. There is a clear sky being show in the climax scene of the first movie which depicts that peaceful life after certain trauma. In second and third movie rain become highly subjective as it become the part of individuals, as individual emotional state gives different meanings for rain.
