Abstract: This study tends to focus upon the literary adaptation exhibited in Malayalam movie of Ramu Kariat’s Chemmeen. A literary adaptation is an adaptation of a novel, story or a work partially or wholly to a feature film. This movie is based on a famous novel of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pilla’s Chemmeen. This movie is focused on the real life of fishermen. The movie, Chemmeen is apparently concentrated on different features of literary adaptation. The concept of the film, dialogues of the characters, their actions and reactions in the movie are excellent replicas of the novel. This movie is absolutely recaptured all emotions, expressions and enthusiasm in the Malayalam novel Chemmeen. This literary adaptation in this Malayalam movie makes learning interactive and enjoyable for the audience. This movie creates a meaningful climate for using language. It is regarded as the great achievement of this film adaptation. It is also identified as the self- motivated platform for cultural identity and language learning. Thus this film adaptation beneficial to the audience.
