Title of the paper :
Correlation between family origin and education in Roots by Arnold Wesker
Abstract:
Our society places a higher weight on family history than moral principles and human feelings. In civilised, contemporary culture, women must realise the value of education and information, as depicted in the drama Roots. Beatie Bryant, the plays female lead, is an essential character in the plot of Roots. Beatie, who is in love with Ronnie Kahn, travels back to her home country from London, feeling that the family will approve of her love relationship. The difference between the family backgrounds is relevant in shaping Beatie’s life. Arnold Wesker, one of Britain’s seminal post-war playwrights, highly inspired by the Kitchen sink drama, “LOOK BACK IN ANGER”, written by John Osborne, uses a similar concept based on family differences through the characters. This paper analyses the importance of family roots and education in a woman’s life.
