Title of the paper :
Analysis of Aabid Surtis Cages as a Survival Narrative
Abstract:
Sustenance, in this world filled with challenges and limited opportunities makes life harder day by day. Every living thing in this world starting from an invisible virus to a visible human being need to possess certain qualities in order to withstand the survival threats. This quality of surviving the perils of an ever-changing world was recorded by Charles Darwin in his On the Origin of Species published in 1859. The objective of this research paper is to fit certain survival incidents portrayed in the novel Cages Love and Vengeance in a Red Light District by Aabid Surti into the theory “Survival of the fittest”. The novel depicts an unfamiliar or a strange narrative which gives an optimistic view over the gruesome prostitute life. The word ‘Sex Worker’ connotes aversion in public, desire in secret, immorality, dungeon, darkness, pain, money, pleasure, coercion and many more. The narratives of Sex workers are filled with sexual assault, infidelity, poverty, misconducts, misdirection at a younger age, slavery, abductions, forced exertion, etc. This work exposes how she was not ashamed of her position and used it as a stepping stone to success. This novel could also be termed as a Survival narrative, while traversing the life of a prostitute in the underworld of Mumbai’s Red Light area.
