Title of the paper :
The Panamanian Plight and Politics
Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze the significance of Panama Canal in global shipping while tracing the history of slavery, imperialist policies, and monopoly of the United States of America over it. The paper is a brief study of the historic event that changed the face of shipping and world economy, proliferating the easy availability of goods throughout the world - that is the construction of the Panama Canal cutting across the isthmus of Panama, an attempt by the French took about quarter of a lac of lives, largest of the dead were the Afro Panamanian population, migrant workers, former slaves, the residue of the Spanish colonial rule spanning over 300 years. Tropical diseases among these workers, their sickly working conditions, climactic and geographical barriers and huge expense were alarming the French who made the first earnest attempt at canal building. The eventual abortion of the whole mission drew an American interest in the prospects. The paper will study the imperialist monopoly American government will play over the construction and control over the economy from the Panama Canal.
