Self, Protest, Society: A study of Autobiographies by Nalini Jameela and VP Suhara
Abstract:
Two autobiographies published in Malayalam in the last decade are taken to analyze their position of politics, the reflection of personal experiences in their activism, and to encapsulate their reflections in their autobiographies. Story of Jora Jorayude Kadha by VP Suhara and Autobiography of a Sex worker by Nalini Jameela Oru Laymgikathozhilaliyude Atmakadha are portraying two marginalized identities which also reminding the lack of adequate literature while portraying subaltern identities, especially in autobiographies. The study locates the ideas of selfhood, the portrayal of self, and the practice of politics in these two works in light of the time and geography these writers cum activists occupied.
