Title of the paper :
Gender Politics in Sivakamis Taming of Women and Bamas Sangati
Abstract:
Women, who, in this phallocentric culture of dominant patriarchy are considered as second sex and are mainly viewed as erotic sites for males sexual gratification are socially, politically, economically and culturally oppressed in this hegemonic social construct. Though these writings are an outcome of multiple oppression and exploitation, the worst sufferers are the Dalit women who are marginalised within the marginalised section of Indian society and are the victims of triple exploitation of caste, class and gender and are treated as the other not only by sarvarna women but also by their male counterparts. The world is now cognizant of the atrocities on Dalit women, thanks to the oppressed voices that have documented the inhuman treatment afflicted upon them in various genres of literature, both in English and in vernacular. The paper concentrates on upholding the sufferings of women by two Tamil women writers, Bama and P Sivakami.
