Title of the paper :
Dynamics of Social Exclusion-Issues, Trends and Prospects
Abstract:
George Douglas Howard Cole, in his introduction to the celebrated work, “Social Contract” by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, says “for the study of the great writers and thinkers of the past, historical imagination is the first necessity. Without mentally referring to the environment in which they lived, we cannot hope to penetrate below the inessential and temporary to the absolute and permanent value of their thought.”1. The above statement equally applies to understanding societies and their social customs and traditions. Indian society also is not an exemption for understanding from the point of view of above statement. India which is known as Jambudweepa in ancient times was home for many races. Unfortunately, the races could not lead harmonious coexistence. Consequently, India was identified as a country in geographical sense of the term but could not be identified as a nation with one people as it was in the case of Greece or Rome.
