Title of the paper : Interpreting Sexism and Gender Stereotypes in the Novel Kim Ji-young, Born 1982

Abstract: Women have struggled throughout history to be on the same page as men and to be freed from the shackles that have bound them. The fight for equality is still being fought today and is still fraught with opposition from all sides, some of whom are unaware of how unfair it actually is. The novel Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 serves as a mirror, reflecting the gender stereotypes prevalent in Korean society. On a more macroscopic level, these subtle references of everyday sexism can be related by every woman in any society there by having universal relativity. This study aims to identify issues from the novel, such as male chauvinism, postnatal and childcare depression, occupational sexism, and subjugation, which are disguised under the mask of normalcy and heavily impacted by sociological and traditional norms.
