Title of the paper :
Neo-racist ambience of Germany and Crisis of Black Identity: A Perspective on Paul Beatty’s Slumberland
Abstract:
The present paper explores Paul Beatty’s portrayal of the still-existing racial hatred and the rise of the Neo-racist environ in Germany in his novel “Slumberland.” It purposefully explains the connotations of the several scenes and episodes in Beatty’s novel as the researcher finds relevance of them with the contemporary scenario in the Western world. It deals with Paul Beatty’s presentation of the predicament of the immigrant black population, the Neo-Nazi and Neo-racist ambience of Germany, and the racial conflicts that have exacerbated after the fall of Berlin Wall. It will show how Neo-racism works not through direct discrimination, but through anti-black policies, stigmatization, stereotyping, racial jokes and humor, metonymic and synecdochic generalizations, etc. Though the critical examination of “Slumberland” will be done from literary point of view, the scholarly sociological and cultural viewpoints will also be incorporated and conclusions will be drawn on the basis of the culmination of all of the above findings.
