Title of the paper :
Understanding the Collective Motives of Female Protagonists in Dil Dhadakne Do with a Postmodern Feminist Lens
Abstract:
Films often move beyond the aesthetic appeal of visual content and present stories that are drawn from society and lived experiences. They are woven with intertwined strands of fact and fiction to present entertainment with value. The dissection of these films is interesting because they help reflect on the cultural undertones, as well as present an image of where the society is progressing. Hindi cinema which is essentially referred to as Bollywood has established a strong presence across India and it can be attributed to the production and infrastructural base in Mumbai as well as the Britishers setting up the first movie screening of a series of silent films in Watson Hotel, Bombay Hafeez, Ara, 2016. It is interesting to observe how intertextuality becomes a significant part of understanding Bollywood films and it can be regarded as a floating signifier Mishra, 2009. Before visual media was treated as a critical material the films were approached for their sentimental value and primarily appreciated for their aesthetic appeal. With the development in critical approaches towards visual media, films are presently viewed with an analytical lens to measure the socio-cultural development.
