Abstract: This paper The Journey of Self-discovery in Paulo Coelhos Novel The Alchemist focuses on how the protagonist of the novel, Santiago in Paulo Coelhos novel The Alchemist seeks his self-discovery. The shepherd boy Santiago goes in search of treasure in the pyramids. The journey of Santiago is initiated in order to find the treasure and ends with the realisation that the journey is to discover him. He gains so much of experience encountering different personalities with various intentions in life. The journey exposes him many things like understanding omens, alchemy, language of the world and soul of the world those cannot be learned without struggle. This paper elaborates how the universe helps an individual to pursue his dream and what are the sacrifices one has to do to achieve his dream.
