Title of the paper :
Social Discrimination in Sudha Murthys Mahashwetha
Abstract:
This paper highlights the problems of a person who has been affected bythe socially discriminated skin disease called leukoderma, which is similar to vitiligo. And it is an attempt to make people clear that the leukoderma is not a contagious disease, it is just a skin disordercaused due to depigmentation or complete destruction of melanocytes in the body. Sudha Murthy, a great social activist and author of the novel MAHASWETHA showcase the problems faced by the central character of the novel named Anupama, who has been abandoned by her husband and her mother in law after knowing that she has the skin disorder named leukoderma. It displays the strong will power of a young woman who had took a decision of leading a new life rather than attempting suicide, after facing a lot of obstacles that came along her way. The subaltern theory plays a major role in it. And also it portrays how working class people are dominated by the upper class people.
