Diasporic Study in Uma Parameswarans Rootless but Green are the Boulevard Trees
Abstract:
Displacement becomes a part of human life. Many people move from their homeland to the various part of the world. This migration is known as Diaspora. When people migrate into the new place, they face hardships to survive there both mentally and physically. Most of the people express their experience of being immigrants through words and art form. There are many famous writers in Diasporic Literature such as Jumpha Lahiri, Uma Parameswaran, V. S. Naipaul, Kiran Desai, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, etc.,. Among them, Uma Parameswaran is one of the famous writers in Indian Diasporic Writing. She created a special place in literature through her creative writing style. She was born in Chennai and brought up in Jabalpur and Nagpur. Later, she moved to Canada. Through her writings, she expressed the problems faced by emigrants in their host land. In her play, Rootless but Green are the Boulevard Trees 1998, she expressed the difficulties and experiences as immigrants in their host land. This paper discusses about how immigrant people try to adopt themselves and mingle with the native people in the host land.
