Title of the paper :
Munoo: A Victim of Class based Corrupt Capitalistic Society
Abstract:
Anands second novel Coolie explores the life of a tragic common man who was exploited by colonial Indias capitalism, industrialism and communalism. It explores the persuasive evils of society with Munoo as the victim of worlds rogueries. This is a picaresque novel bringing out the struggles of Munoo because of the socio-economic struggles and class injustice. Munoo undergoes psychological conflict through the constant shift in his workplace and his encounter with strangers. His innocence and youth are crushed by poverty. This novel depicts how Munoo is a victim of inhuman cruelties in an irrational society. He is exploited by almost everyone and everywhere. The cruelty of Bibiji, his uncles poverty, the inhuman behaviour of Ganpat, the threat of losing job by Mainwaring are all responsible for his suppression and untimely death. He strives hard to escape starvation and poverty but it all turns futile and costs his life.
