Title of the paper :
Quest for Identity: Reconfiguring The Self in Preeti Shenoys The Secret Wishlist
Abstract:
The image of woman in fiction has endured a radical change in the 21st century. Indian women writers today tend to focus on the individual woman who expresses herself than the stereotypically altruistic woman. The unblemished, enduring, dependent woman is no longer a female lead. Instead, the female characters are projected to be successful in their quest for uniqueness and eccentricity. Preeti Shenoy, one of the popular and well-known Indian woman writer, expertly conveys the issues that women face as well as their inner suffering. Her fictional work, The Secret Wishlist depicts the story of Diksha, a mother, a wife, a daughter-in-law and many more roles other than her own self. The purpose of this study is to examine how the female character begin to identify herself and eventually breaks her prolonged silence to achieve emancipation. In addition to discussing topics like womens empowerment, the search for identity, womens suffering, etc., this novel also reflected the characters emotional state and mental psyche.
