Title of the paper :
Literary Accounts of the Subaltern Covid-19 Pandemic Experiences in India
Abstract:
In practically every epidemic outbreak, the subaltern comprising the weaker sexes, the impoverished, everyday workers, and migrants are the worst casualties. In order to look at their condition in the face of sickness and death, we may place our faith in the act of writing, using language as a landscape that can help us to explore, understand and exercise skepticism. The subaltern experiences of the stigmatization and othering that occurred alongside the outbreaks are brought to light by the creation of pandemic narratives or works with pandemic settings in the realm of literature. The voice of the subaltern has drawn intense interest in recent literary works. The writers account of the stigmatization, racial subjugation, shadow pandemic, racism, and paranoia towards these populations exposed the discourse of subalternity that has pervaded the field of culture, power, and knowledge. This paper shall attempt to situate the subaltern pandemic experiences in select works through the lens of socio-economic and psycho social perspectives. Through literary depiction of subaltern voices, their experiences, and personal narratives, it is hoped that the hegemonic narratives will continue to be challenged.
