Postcolonial Perspective in Arundhati Roys The God Of Small Things and Bapsi Sidhwas Ice-Candy-Man
Abstract:
Arundhati Roy and Bapsi Sidhwa are rightly considered as prominent novelists in English literature. Both give their voice against the sufferings of people. Roy and Sidhwas novels are Postcolonial. Roys The God of Small Things and Sidhwas Ice-Candy-Man illustrates the miseries of people under the patriarchal and partition society. This paper presents the postcolonial elements and how women suffered in the male dominated society. Through the character Ammu in The God of Small Things, Roy reflects the womens loneliness and sufferings that are faced by them in the society. In Ice-Candy-Man, Sidhwa describes the partition life of people in the Indian subcontinent and how they victimized under the name of community. With the help of postcolonial the paper analyses the patriarchal, caste and politics in Roys The God of Small Things and, partition and politics in Sidhwas Ice-Candy-Man. This paper provides a scope for future research. A detailed analysis can be done on the topic, portrayal of women or sufferings of women in Arundhati Roys The God of Small Things and Bapsi Sidhwas Ice-Candy-Man.
