Women in Cinema: Now and Then
Abstract:
Cinema is a boss-brother which controls and forms human beings. Cinema controls and modulates ones preferences, lifestyle, values and requisites starting with sartorial preferences, to honeymoon destinations. With the passage of time, movies witnessed several transformations. However, the advancement of womens representation in Indian film has not kept pace with the advancement of our culture. Indian film industry still slathers in a patriarchal society. Despite the passage of time, male ambition and dream continue to occupy a majority of screen time in Indian cinema. Some of these practices are sexist and backward toward women. It is true that the number of films with significant female characters is growing. As a result, it is critical to consider how far we have come and what concerns still need to be addressed in the representation of women in Indian cinema. This paper will trace the evolution of women in cinema, thereby, posits the position of women in cinema and society.
